Janmashthami also called Gokulashtami is an annual Hindu festival celebrated with great pomp and show. The day is celebrated as the birthday of Shri Krishna, who is considered as Lord Vishnu's eighth avatar.

To celebrate the festival, all Krishna temples around the world are decorated and people sing and dance on Krishna bhajans. People also decorate the mandirs in their home and get new clothes for all the gods in their mandir.

Some people even arrange a small swing for the newborn Krishna to lie in it. People make a jhanki of toys and clothe Krishna in new clothes.
